Mega School of Theology

MISSION

To provide a structured training vehicle for the certification of new ministers in the five-fold gifts, grounded in and affirming the theology of Mega Church.

History

Bishop Luther J. Blackwell, Jr. founded Mega School of Theology  in 2003   The mission of the school is to provide a training ground for those called to the Five-fold Ministries.  On February 1, 2003 and February 5, 2003, the Winter 2003 Session commenced with the first two classes, entitled “Biblical Hermeneutics” and “Pastoral Leadership I”, respectively. These classes were taught by Dean Linda Holt.  Subsequently, Minister Constance Browning, and Tina Holt joined as faculty members on April 26, 2003 and the school grew in enrollment and staff.  The classes were originally held in the Mega Church meeting rooms and the Church Sanctuary. Classes moved to the Mega Church Annex on Prame Avenue in August 2004.  In February 2005, the first Spanish-language class, Hermeneutica Biblica, was offered and taught by Felix Muniz.  The Mega School of Theology Inaugural Commencement Ceremony was held on June 4, 2005 in the Mega Church sanctuary.  Seven graduates were presented.  The Commencement Speaker was Bishop Luther J. Blackwell, Jr., Founder.  Online classes were offered in 2010 and a Self Study program began in 2011.  Enrollment is open to all, members and non-members of Mega Church.

Mega School of Theology Crest

The Mega School of Theology Crest was conceived within the context of the Mission and Vision of Mega Church and its theme of Kingdom and Restoration.  The symbols represented are as follows:

Ark (Covenant) –Throne and presence of God among his people; Symbol of Christ in Humanity and Deity

Crown – Symbol of eternal life, Rulership, Kingdom

Scroll – Symbol of Divine Revelation; God’s Book, the Bible

Staff – Symbol of strength, guidance

The Making of a Leader – Part II

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Wednesdays – starting 7/25)

Text:  The Making of a Leader by Frank Damazio

Instructors:  Minister Cheryl Garcia & Brother Mike Mackoy

An in-depth study of the pernal path to ministry using the outline provided in the book, The Making of a Leader.  Coursework will include intensive homework, essays, and class teamwork.

 

Biblical Studies II – Biblical Hermeneutics

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Wednesdays – starting 7/25)

Texts:  Interpreting the Symbols and Types, Kevin J. Conner
             Interpreting the Scriptures, Kevin J. Conner

Instructor:  Sister Donna Johnson

This class focuses on extracting meaning from the Holy Scriptures, utilizing systematic research methods, coupled with Spirit led interpretation.  The successful student will be able to approach Scripture for teaching, preaching, study and spiritual formation from a grammatical, historical and theological position, and will integrate the principles, concepts and procedures taught to practice the interpretation of Biblical test.  Biblical Studies I – Bible Study Tools is a prerequisite for this course.

 

New Testament Survey – The Gospels

Text:  The Writings of the New Testament by Luke Timothy Johnson

Instructor:  Minister Constance Browning

This course is an in-depth treatment of the New Testament with emphasis on the Gospels.  The student will study authorship, perspective, structure and content, as well as compare and contrast each Gospel account.  After selecting a passage, the studen will be expected to complete an in-depth study of a passage of scripture and submit a term paper.  Biblical Studies II – Biblical Hermeneutics is a prerequisite for this course.
