June 2009: To Whom Shall We Go? |

We are in a season of life where it seems as though the highways and crowded streets of our cities are filled with passenger cars moving in various directions, but having no persons, however, occupying the drivers’ seats, who are responsibly steering the cars where all passengers are destined to arrive. Everyone undoubtedly has an opinion or idea about where they should end up, but the ideas are being presented in the fog—no one really articulating clearly about the particulars.
In the midst of our society are so many who are misguided, misdirected, confused about life, their future, their families, their employment, their health issues, their children’s education, their retirement, and the list of insecurities are continue to pile high. There is not a more horrid feeling to have in life than being lost—not knowing where you are so that you can even begin to gauge what course of action must be taken next.
There has been no other time in history quite like this one, where our nation has clamored as loudly for someone to give us direction and lead us out of the social maze in which we are entangled than is happening at this present hour. Millions of dollars are being spent on salaries and being given to so-called “experts” or gifted men, who are exceptionally trained in their fields. They throw up their hands with a golden parachute to comfort them, while we are left stuck in the quicksand, sinking daily into positions of disgust and grief. These are the men to whom our nation and the world are looking to take us “there.” Our nation’s president has handpicked men and women who are at the very top of their game, supposedly skilled in maneuvering corporations and institutions over and around extremely challenging hurdles of social life to bring us to an expected end. However, it seems that most roads that we are being directed to take are mere dead-end streets, leaving us sitting in our vehicles of life scratching our heads and bemoaning what we do after the turnaround.
Peter had found in Jesus one whom he was assured would assist him in getting him to his ultimate end. And when giving thought to any other source, other than Jesus, he cried, probably out of much frustration and anxiety, “To whom shall we go?” Peter had made the assessment, and a very accurate one I might add, that if he and his home boys would walk away from Christ, where would he then experience quality of life? What would and could there ever be that would there after safely guide him through his time on earth? Peter made instant, on-the-spot analysis, declaring that “There is no one else to whom we can turn but you, Jesus!”
Yes, I call upon this house to understand that the world is looking for direction, for guidance in just simple things—day to day things—such as, how do I survive these times? Where can I receive help for my children, for my family? Is there anyone out there that can assist me with my utilities, my rent? How can I get my mortgage payment reduced, help with my credit card dilemma? How can I prepare for my child’s education of higher learning when it is so difficult just preparing my child a decent meal? The list of practical questions to today’s complicated issues of life can be overwhelming to say the least. Why would we, the church, ever allow someone to turn from Jesus (or the church) while looking for answers to such questions as these?
It is our utmost desire to effectively minister to this community of believers as well as non-believers in the Cleveland Metropolitan Area through what we (hopefully) are raising up as an answer to the myriad of questions that individuals and families face—that being, Mega Church’s RESOURCE CENTER. It is my hope that you see the need of such an outreach to the extent you remain willing to sacrifice your dollars at this critical time to make it happen and continue to happen. If each of you will be faithful to either pledge or satisfy the pledge that was made, I am sure that this project will be up and running this summer. The only thing that can prevent this from happening is YOU!
“To whom can we go?” Might Mega Church be an answer? |
